New Twitter Home Page Is a Slam Dunk
In March earlier this year, Doug Bowman, a former Visual Design Lead at Google, decided it was time to leave the Big G. He left Mountain View to seek new challenges at Twitter. Since he Bowman started at Twitter we’ve seen minor UI improvements throughout the site, internal as well as external, but today we got a first (to my best knowledge) taste of what’s to come as far as visual improvements on the external Twitter Web.
It’s been talked about frequently in an open forum from various Twitter execs that they do have a difficult time of conveying the benefit of the service and what value it actually brings to the enduser. To be perfectly blunt, Twitter is one of the simplest and most generic services in relation to it’s enorumous and relatively recent mainstream appeal. But, it is also one which is a tad bit difficult to explain to someone that has never heard of it before.
This is exactly where emphasize has been put and I take my hat off to Mr. Bowman for doing a fantastic job. The execution consists of a clean home page with clean UI that really conveys the image of where Twitter themselves wants to be positioned as a company; the pulse of the world.
Twitter Search is also vastly improved in my opinion, putting the utility of real-time web conversations search into context with a nifty “Search Tip” box on the right hand side margine.
Have a look at the screens below or head over to Twitter.com to take a look for yourselves.
