Pat Phelan, founder, president of Cubic Telecom and blogger alike wrote an interesting and very flattering post about his thoughts on Rebtel and our recent gains.

By the looks of it, Voice 2.0 in general (and Rebtel in particular) is really starting to take off and personally, I couldn’t be happier about it.

It’s awesome to see that a lot of people out there are exploring smart ways of making international calls. With all the huge telecom giants around the world charging ridiculous amounts for calling abroad from mobile phones (at Rebtel we calls this “the daylight robbery”), it’s no wonder things are starting to move.

In conclusion, I think it’s fair to say that Rebtel is the knight in shining armour liberating people around the world from high phone bills.

The website for this awesome event is now complete and up-and-running (that the UFC web guys like to go all-out with these event sites is probably an understatement). 

Now to the main event. 

Matt Serra is a fantastic fighter with awesome ground skills. Although, my favourite french-canadian Georges St. Pierre, is evolving towards becoming the most exciting and dynamic fighter in all of MMA (together with Anderson Silva). In other words, he’s one size too big for Serra.

At the same time, I don’t want to say too much (maybe too late) since the last time these two fellas fought I said the exact same thing and Serra ended up becoming champ (in a pretty devastating fashion).  

With all that aside, if St. Pierre has his mind right and is fully mentally prepared (which I think he is) he will run through Serra with ease. His new camp (Jacksons MMA) has done wonders for him. 

I was browsing Sphinn today and came across this interview with a lady called Shana Albert (some of you social media buffs might know her better by “Nanny612”). 

For those of you who don’t know who she is, I will give you a brief introduction.  

Shana is a web master, webdesigner and run several blogs and websites. Nothing particularly sensational there one might think.  

What is sensational is that she has managed to leverage the power of social media sites to (indirectly) promote her web projects and generate traffic (a tactic refered to as Social Media Marketing). As you might have figured out by now, she has done this with great results.  

Interesting about Shana and her story is that she managed to become this successful without having an actual “marketing agenda” going in. She got so good results simply by enjoying herself (very important), and over time becoming an invaluable cornerstone of the community. 

Shana is (to my best knowledge) primarily most active on StumbleUpon, where she surely is worth her weight in gold as far as contributing quality content to the community. Social media is about exactly that in a nutshell: contributions and sustainable relationships. 

I’d like to describe this as “content and relations reciprocity”, with strong emphasize on the word reciprocity. This is a medium of mutually beneficial give and take; things cannot be forced or uncaringly pushed on people. It also demands its fair share of time. In other words, pretty much like its “offline” equivalent.  

In conclusion, marketers and others with similar agendas, recognising the value of social media but not fully realizing these fact, will slowly but surely undermine themselves and the brands they try to promote.
